This is one of the most common mistakes that organizations make when promoting their employees and this is no different at CSD. Although it is evident that CSD promotional decision were made on accepted criteria by looking at previous performance history of the two employees in question, there were major issues which were overlooked. The major reason for the turn of events can be attributed to what is referred to as skills gap. Skills gap refers to the gap between the skills wanted for a given position and the skills that an employee possesses (Gully and Phillips, 2010).
