Louis Armstong was born and raised in New Orleans in August fourth (1901), to a factory working father and a prostitute mother who was forced into this trade by her irresponsible husband who abandoned them shortly after Armstong was born. He is said to having grown in very difficult conditions due to poverty that forced him to leave school in fifth grade and turned to odd jobs in the neighborhood to make ends meet. In (1912), Louis Armstong was arrested for firing a gun in the air and was taken to colored Waifs Home for Boys, where he honed his skills in music because he was taught how to play the cornet. It was during this time that he fell in love with music. In (1914), was released from jail and settled on doing music professionally. In (1918), he married his first wife Daisy Parker and took to performing with King Oliver band. He later on replaced Oliver and played on the Kid Orys band which was then arguably the most popular band in New Orleans.
