Testing a TheoryJerome MathisPSY 201August 14, 2011Ronald Zuchora-WalskeTesting a TheoryA recent theory that I have tested was having a wireless internet connection versus a wired internet connection. Wired networks, such as Ethernet, are for communications between fixed locations. Wireless networks, such as Wi-Fi, are for communications between devices. The distinction is lost for fixed-location devices, but device mobility is the primary benefit of wireless. The air is free, but to operate wireless networks you still need a wired connection to a computer or the wired network and a source of power. The benefit of a wired connection is that you do not lose signal and if you are trying to stream data there is no lag. With a wireless connection there is the benefit of mobility and freedom to use any connected device as long as you can receive signal. The downside of wireless is loss of signal and dead spots. The availability of wireless depends on where you are and if you are indoors, you may not have a signal depending on the materials that the buildings you are in were made from.
